Inlaid Sterling Pendant on Beaded Foxtail Chain Necklace

Craftsmanship and symbolism marry to create this fascinating necklace. A sterling silver pendant engraved with a triangle in a square in a circle hangs on foxtail chain with beaded stations. The mystical-looking symbol is inlaid with abalone, mother of pearl, and coral, and is placed within a cruciform-shape frame. Segments of tightly woven silver chain alternate with colorful heishi beads. A handmade hook and eye clasp fastens the piece. Circa 1970.

The symbol depicting a triangle inside a square inside a circle has several names; in Zen Buddhist practice it is referred to as "Maru Sankaku Shikaku," in 17th Century Alchemy it is called "Squaring the Circle."

Details.....The necklace is 19" long, the pendant measures 1.77" by 1.75". In Very Good Vintage Condition. You should expect some wear on all vintage and antique jewels; we consider it part of their charm.
