Radiant Ruby & Pearl Star Brooch

The last decade of the 19th Century brought symbolism and mysticism into every area of life as people contemplated the new century and what it might bring. Moons, stars, comets, and other heavenly phenomena were popular motifs in clothing and jewelry. This celestial brooch is a delightful example of the trend. The 14k gold star has eight rippling rays, each bead set with a row of graduated pearls. A raspberry-red ruby is claw set at the star's fiery heart. Engraved detail embellishes the tip of each ray. The brooch finishes with a c-clasp and a jump ring bale, enabling it to be worn as a pendant. This radiant star is certain to brighten any outfit. Circa 1890.
