A disc of Wedgwood basalt bears a Neoclassical intaglio. Three tranquil nude figures are impressed upon the matte black pottery. A sleek 14k gold bezel girds the intaglio, with a jump ring added to its bale. The back of the piece is stamped "Wedgwood 389." Circa 1900.

Black basalt is a style of pottery that dates back to the Iron Age. Josiah Wedgwood developed the best modern basalt formula around 1767; Wedgwood continued producing it until the late 20th Century. Basalt's fine black body resembles ancient bronze and ancient Greek vases, making it prized by collectors, particularly those whose taste tends towards the Neoclassical.

Details.....The charm measures .98" by .99", 1.33" with the ring. In Very Good Antique Condition. Some wear is to be expected on vintage and antique jewels; it is a part of their charm.
