The Victorians loved all things celestial, and so along with stars and moon and comet themed jewels moldavite became very popular in the late 1800's. This brooch features an oval of faceted olive green moldavite which is surrounded by a halo of creamy natural pearls held in a pretty crimped gold frame. What a lovely piece of history. 12k yellow gold circa 1880.
Moldavite is an olive green vitreous silica glass formed by a meteorite impact in Southern Germany 15 million years ago.
Details.....The brooch measures 1.11" x .67". In Excellent Antique Condition. You should always expect some wear on vintage and antique jewels, we consider it a part of their charm.
