Enormous Operculum & Sterling Ring Signed Dollybird

This enormous operculum ring is mesmerizing, its soft, creamy green hues are deep and tranquil. The oval "shell" is set simply in a clean-lined sterling silver bezel atop a very wide band. Signed "Dollybird" and numbered 1487. Man, just imagine the size of that snail. Circa 1970.

Operculum translates literally to "little lid." It is an anatomical part of the marine snail, a calcareous structure that forms a sort of trapdoor over the shell's opening. The gastropod can draw itself safely into its shell and pull the operculum closed behind it.

Details.....Currently a size 8. The top of the ring measures 1.23" by 1.60", and the band is 10.7mm wide. In Very Good Vintage Condition. You should always expect some wear on vintage and antique jewels; we consider it part of their charm.
