A bold, graphic Mid 20th Century Bakelite bracelet with red, black, and yellow stripes. The wide bracelet has a flat interior and a shallow half round exterior. Glossy stripes ring the piece vertically; it's reminiscent of the German flag, though the colors are in a different order. Circa 1950.
Bakelite was the first plastic made from synthetic components. Developed by chemist Leo Baekeland in Yonkers, New York, 1909. Bakelite jewelry became fashionable in the 1920s due to its sleek, modern look and substantial, high-end feel. The wide variety of colors and visual textures made available by Bakelite kept it popular through the 1950s.
Details.....The bangle measures .90" wide and 3" in diameter. It has an 8.15" inner circumference. In Very Good Vintage Condition. You should always expect some wear on your antique and vintage jewels; we consider it part of their charm.
