This fabulous set of matching jet bracelets has clasps engraved with the Great Pyramids of Giza. The squares of faceted jet are lovely and glossy with a deep, deep black color. The jet is strung on gold-filled wire, making the bracelets flexible yet sturdy. The engraved square gold-filled clasps show identical Egyptian scenes. Safety chains provide additional security. Matched bracelets are a quintessential mid-Victorian era accessory. Jet was one of the most popular materials used for jewelry during Queen Victoria's reign, whether worn for fashion or mourning. Circa 1860.
Jet is petrified lignite coal mined predominately in Whitby, England. Its natural black color made it an indispensable material for mourning jewelry.
Details: The bracelets are 7" long and .64" wide. The clasps measure .61" by .48". In Very Good Antique Condition. Small imperfections and wear are to be expected; we consider them to be a part of their charm.
