A fabulous Mexican Jerusalem cross pendant of sterling silver cannetille. Cannetille is a type of metalwork that employs intricately coiled wire, where tiny wires are curled, piled, and twisted to form complex patterns accented with tiny balls. The cannetille gives this cross a wonderful three-dimensional quality. The elaborately worked cross hangs on a matching decorative bale from a sturdy sterling curb chain. The back of the cross is stamped "Hecho En Mexico Cuernavaca M.D. 0.925." Circa 1950.

The Jerusalem cross consists of a large central cross with four smaller Greek crosses (a cross with four equal arms, similar to a plus sign) in each quadrant. Also known as the Crusader cross, the Jerusalem cross dates back to the 11th and 12th Centuries when the Crusaders captured Jerusalem.

Details.....The chain is 22" long. The pendant measures 1.18" across, 1.90" with bale. The piece weighs 15.2 grams. In Very Good Vintage Condition. You should always expect some wear on antique and vintage jewels; we consider it part of their charm.
