Retro Green Rhinestone & Sterling Corsage Brooch by Coro

A dynamic corsage brooch from Coro, crafted in the Retro style. A bouquet of dark green rhinestones is wrapped in a spiral of rhinestone-set ribbon. Rays of clear rhinestones burst out from amongst the sparkling round and pear-cut blossoms. Carefully crafted in gilded sterling silver, the brooch has a weight appropriate for the heavier fabrics used in coats or jackets. This dramatic War Time piece is marked "CoroCraft," "Sterling," and with Coro's signature Pegasus mark. Circa 1940.

Emanuel Cohn and Carl Rosenberger established the New York accessories boutique Coro in 1901. In 1929, Coro purchased a manufacturing facility in Providence, Rhode Island, which became the world's largest costume jewelry facility. During World War II, 70% of Coro's jewelry plants converted to military production. The facilities that continued to produce jewelry began using sterling silver, declaring Coro the first company to use non-priority metals in support of the U.S. war effort.
