Striking sculptural cufflinks from the important artist Antonio Pineda. Each link's face is composed of two 970 grade silver rectangles; a rectangle with a curved surface is offset atop a larger, flat rectangle. A black onyx stripe is inlaid in the curved piece. The fascinating faces are set on classic toggle posts. These collectible cufflinks bear Pineda's maker's mark, as well as the Mexican Eagle 17 mark. Circa 1940.
The Mexican city of Taxco is renown for the production of superb silver jewelry. Its abundant silver and semi-precious gems attracted designers and studio jewelers from all over the world. Antonio Pineda was born in Taxco in 1919. He apprenticed with William Spratling before opening his own workshop in 1939. Pineda's Modernist style was bold and architectural, and his jewelry is amongst the most technically refined ever made in Taxco.
Details.....The cufflink faces measure .95" by .66". In Very Good Vintage Condition. You should expect some wear on all vintage and antique jewels; we consider it part of its charm.
