A fabulous Bakelite and rhinestone dress clip celebrating the Allies' victory in World War II. The opaque, oxblood-colored Bakelite "V" is striped with tiny white rhinestones set in silver-tone metal. The brooch is backed with a hinged clip that fastens onto the edge of a piece of fabric, kind of like a bookmark. A stylish souvenir of an optimistic time, honoring the ideals we still aspire to today. Circa 1940.

Bakelite was the first plastic made from synthetic components. Developed by chemist Leo Baekeland in Yonkers, New York, 1909. Bakelite jewelry became fashionable in the 1920s due to its sleek, modern look and substantial, high-end feel. The wide variety of colors and visual textures made available by Bakelite kept it popular through the 1950s.

Details.....The brooch measures 2.08" by 2.63". In Very Good Vintage Condition. You should always expect some wear on vintage and antique jewels; we consider it part of their charm.
