Yellow & Rose Gold Retro Brooch with Diamond-Set Platinum Detail

Mixed metals and bold lines are hallmarks of the Retro design movement. This period of jewelry design was short but significant, instantly recognizable for its unique aesthetic. This brooch is a perfect example. At first glance, it seems just an abstract shape, with mirrored curves of alternating 14k yellow and rose gold. Horizontal bands of platinum-set diamonds center the piece. Upon consideration, its angular shapes resolve into a natural motif of wings or possible ginkgo tree leaves. The brooch fastens with a secure rollover pin; the pin is marked with an acorn, possibly for maker Lester & Company. So chic, this gorgeous brooch radiates Old Hollywood glamour. Circa 1940.
