An enchanting Georgian ring set with glittering rose-cut diamonds. A larger pale yellow diamond is center set within a pie crust of silver. Eight ovalish rose-cut diamonds surround the center, and tiny diamonds adorn the decorative shoulders. The original engraving encircles the yellow-gold band; it appears never to have been sized. The outside of the band has a leaf-shaped hallmark, a French mark for Seurre, denoting an import in the latter half of the 1700s. The diamonds are foiled and closed-backed, as was the fashion in the 18th Century to enhance their sparkle in candlelight. This ring is as delicate as it is beautiful and should be worn with care. Silver on 12k yellow gold. Circa 1760-70. Note the larger size of this ring; it was likely worn on the pointer finger or over gloves.
Please note that you Do Not want to get foiled closed-back gems wet; it will darken the stones.
Details.....Currently a size 9.5. The top of the ring measures 12.3mm across, and the band is 2.3mm wide. In Very Good Antique Condition. You should always expect some wear on vintage and antique jewels; we consider it part of the charm.
