This charming Bakelite circle brooch is hand painted with sweet flowers. Honey-colored Bakelite is cast in three round, shallow steps. Each step is painted with a ring of pink blossoms, and a pretty bouquet is painted at the top. The brooch fastens with a rollover pin. Romantic and feminine, this unusual piece feels very personal. Circa 1940.

Bakelite was the first plastic made from synthetic components. Developed by chemist Leo Baekeland in Yonkers, New York, 1909. Bakelite jewelry became fashionable in the 1920s due to its sleek, modern look and substantial, high-end feel. The wide variety of colors and visual textures made available by Bakelite kept it popular through the 1950s.

Details.....The brooch measures 2.5" in diameter. In Very Good Vintage Condition. You should always expect some wear on your antique and vintage jewels; we consider it part of their charm.
