This brooch is adorable. It's a cute little bear, modeled in bright red Bakelite. He's wide-eyed with pert ears. Little bear swings a wooden bucket in his one moving arm as he snacks on a bright green fish. He is (obviously) having a great day. The Bakelite is glossy, opaque, and very saturated in color. Circa 1940.

Bakelite was the first plastic made from synthetic components. Developed by chemist Leo Baekeland in Yonkers, New York, 1909. Bakelite jewelry became fashionable in the 1920s due to its sleek, modern look and substantial, high-end feel. The wide variety of colors and visual textures made available by Bakelite kept it popular through the 1950s.

Details: The brooch measures 3" tall and 1.91" wide. In Very Good Vintage Condition. You should always expect some wear on your antique and vintage jewels; we consider it part of their charm.
