Stars & Tulips Brooch with Diamonds & Pearls

The fin-de-siècle brought mysticism into everyday life as people contemplated the 20th Century and what it might bring. Stars, moons, comets, and other heavenly phenomena were popular jewelry motifs. This majestic brooch is a stellar example of the trend, with layers of 9k gold set with diamonds and pearls. The top layer is a six-pointed star with an old mine-cut diamond burning at its heart. Graduated pearls are set in its pointed rays. A halo of tulips blooms between the rays, with pearls set in their leaves and petals. A pearl-set pendant hangs from the bottom-most point. So light and lacy that it feels almost like a snowflake. The brooch fastens with a c-clasp, and the drop hangs on a chatelaine hook. This exquisite piece is signed on its back E.A.M." Circa 1900.
