Savage Tiger with Frothy Pearls Hattie Carnegie Brooch

A snarling tiger lunges out from under a shower of pearls; this Hattie Carnegie brooch is truly fierce. The savage beast is sculpted in high relief from gold tone metal. His fangs are bared, his claws unsheathed, and his eyes burn with green fire. A fringe of wired faux pearls falls over his back, like frothy bubbles. Perhaps he looks so ferocious because he hates baths. This wild brooch is signed "Hattie Carnegie" on its back. Circa 1960.

Hattie Carnegie set the pace of American fashion for nearly three decades. She owned her own shop that produced custom and ready-to-wear clothing designs. Her store also sold furs, jewelry, lingerie, perfumes, and accessories. The Carnegie look embodied head-to-toe perfection.
