An extraordinary Georgian watch fob featuring a garnet intaglio. The garnet colored glass is carved with the lively image of Cupid driving a chariot. The God of Love rides in a quadriga, a chariot drawn by four horses abreast, favoured for chariot racing in Classical Antiquity and the Roman Empire until the Late Middle Ages. The intaglio is bezel set at the base of an elegant Pinchbeck fob. Pinchbeck is an ingenious alloy invented in the 18th century to imitate high carat gold. The fob's graceful Neoclassical design and dramatic carving makes it a wonderful choice for a pendant. Circa 1820.

Details.....Measures 25.5mm tall, and the base is 18.5mm by 20mm. In Very Good Antique Condition. You should always expect some wear on vintage and antique jewels; we consider it part of the charm.
