Roman 22k Signet Ring with Chronos Intaglio

An incredible Ancient Roman 22k gold ring set with an agate intaglio. The black stone is carved with a beardless, winged man. The man is nude, wearing some kind of headwear. He holds a short scythe in one hand and a difficult-to-interpret object in the other. Could this represent Chronos, the Greek personification of time in pre-Socratic philosophy and later literature? Chronos is winged and the scythe is his symbol; however, he is typically shown with a beard. The oval intaglio sits horizontally in the signet-style ring; the buttery high carat setting is closed-back, with a smooth bezel and curvaceous shoulders that taper into a slim band.

Details....A size 4.25, this ring cannot be sized. The top of the ring measures 13mm by 10.5mm, and the band is 2mm wide. In Very Good Antique Condition. You should expect some wear on vintage and antique jewels; we consider it a part of their charm.
