This turquoise and coin silver bead necklace has a fantastic pendant engraved with an eagle. The base of the necklace is a graduated strand of two-part construction beads crafted from old silver coins. Giving the beads an appealing detail as the strike is still visible. Two segments of fat turquoise heishi beads break up the silver. The pendant is a silver one-dollar coin engraved with an eagle and pierced to support a fringe of three silver feathers. The beads are wire strung, and the piece finishes with conical terminals and a classic hoop and eye clasp. The back of the coin is signed "B. Gibson" by the artist. Circa 1960-70.
Heishi (meaning "shell") are small disc or tube-shaped beads made of shells or stones, traditionally cut, polished, and drilled by hand. They originate with the Kewa Pueblo, previously known as the Pueblo of Santo Domingo, people of New Mexico.
Details.....The necklace is 26" long, and the drop measures 1.5" by 4". The silver beads range from 8.5mm to 21mm, and the heishi beads measure 15.2mm in diameter. In Very Good Vintage Condition. You should always expect some wear on your vintage and antique jewels; we consider it part of the charm.
