This fascinating Mexican poison ring has a cabochon of midnight-blue lapis lazuli set in its hinged top. The top of the sterling silver ring opens to reveal a hidden compartment. The lapis is bezel set within a frame of twisted wire, and a generous cluster of delicately wrought silver flowers and beading surround it. The wide silver band is open, allowing for a fair amount of adjustment in size. The interior of the band is marked "Taxco" and "925." This statement ring has a bold bohemian appeal, and an irresistible little secret. Circa 1980.
The city of Taxco is an important center for Mexican silver jewelry design. During the 1940s Taxco drew jewelry artists from all over the world. The main attraction for the designers and studio jewelers was the abundant locally mined supply of materials, silver and semi precious gems.
Details.....The adjustable ring is currently about a size 8. The top of the ring measures 27.5mm by 32.3mm, and the band is 4.5mm wide. Its profile is 14.7mm high. In Very Good Vintage Condition. You should expect all vintage and antique jewels to show some wear; we consider it part of their charm.
