Antique Brooches and Pins

We love everything about antique brooches. There is nothing more satisfying than a successful treasure hunt for that piece that completes your unique style, outfit, or occasion. It's a guilty pleasure of ours as well! We regularly bring in new pins and brooches to the shop, so check in regularly to see our latests finds.

Did you know brooches started out not as jewelry, but as a way to keep clothes together? Brooches are rich in human history, dating all the way back to the Bronze Age. Since then, their function has shifted towards beauty and a status of wealth. Brooches today have a wide range of uses, everything from giving a little extra sparkle to bring life into an otherwise plain outfit to being the embodiment of one's personality and mood in a one-in-a-kind piece.

How To Wear a Brooch

The most frequent brooch related question we hear in our shop is, "How do I wear a brooch?"

Brooches can be worn anywhere, and is most often found on jackets, lapels, hats, and purses. Make sure your brooch is securely fastened and not attached to clothing items that could easily fly away, like your favorite boho hat on a windy day! Be sure to place your most precious brooches in a place that will not be prone to knocking up against walls and other surfaces that could lead to a scratch or worse.

Interested in Learning About Jewelry Through the Eras?

-Paula Bixel - Proprietor

"Wearing jewelry in remembrance of our beloved dead is a tradition that originated in the 16th century, but the fashion for mourning jewelry reached its height during the reign of Queen Victoria. Victorian mourning jewelry, particularly those pieces dating to the earlier part of this era, are of special interest to lovers of antique jewelry due to its uniquely personal nature; few other styles of jewelry allow such an intimate glimpse into the past."
