Vivian Kellems Deputy Sheriff Star Badge

An interesting conundrum...This star-shaped silver gilt badge is engraved with the following: Vivien Kellems Deputy Sheriff Nueces Co. Texas. It recalls old Western movies, when the hero's deputization is made official with the presentation of a star-shaped badge. Was a person named Vivian Kellems once deputized as sheriff to bring law and order to Nuences County?

There is a very prominent historical personage named Vivian Kellems, the only person by that name my admittedly shallow research turned up. Kellems was a woman, born in 1896. She was an American industrialist, inventor, public speaker, feminist and political candidate who was best known for her battle with the U.S. Government over taxation. She was also a fervent supporter of voting reform and the Equal Rights Amendment. A controversial, outspoken and very, very wealthy woman.

However, there is no evidence that Kellems was ever Deputy Sheriff in Nuences Co. or anywhere else. Perhaps there is another Vivian Kellems? Maybe the badge is an inside joke of some kind?  Make it your own and the story passes on to you. The back is black, ready for you to engrave your own legend.
