Wonderful Mid 19th Century Pinchbeck Mesh Chain

This wonderful mid 19th Century Pinchbeck chain is composed of thousands of engraved links, finished with a decorative clasp. The long mesh chain is marvelously supple with an appealing texture. The ornate barrel clasp is set with four tiny turquoise-colored glass gems. Circa 1865.

Pinchbeck is a gold substitute that was invented in 1720 by Christopher Pinchbeck, and remained popular until the mid 1800s. It is comprised completely of metal alloys that give the look of high carat gold without tarnish or color changes.

Details.....The chain is 39" long, the mesh chain measures 6.1mm across, the clasp measures 23mm by 8.8mm. In Very Good Antique Condition. You should always expect some wear on vintage and antique pieces, we consider it part of the charm.
