18th Century Rose Cut Diamond Ring in Silver & Gold
A petite Georgian ring set with glittering rose-cut diamonds. The oval center diamond sits in a silver pie crust setting, a style common to the era. Two small diamonds flank the center stone, each set in engraved silver. The diamonds and silver were applied to the ring's 14k rosy gold band. Split cathedral shoulders are sculpted and engraved with a delicate foliate design. The diamonds are foiled and closed-backed. Prior to the mid-1800s gems were commonly backed with foil enhancing their sparkle in the low light conditions that existed before modern electric lighting. Circa 1780.
Please note that you Do Not want to get foiled closed-back gems wet; it will darken the stones. This ring is as delicate as it is beautiful and should be worn with care.
Details.....Currently a size 3.75. The top of the ring measures 14.6mm by 5.5mm, and the band is 2mm wide. In Very Good Antique Condition. You should always expect some wear on vintage and antique jewels; we consider it part of the charm.
