Glowing apple juice Bakelite is the perfect medium for this gorgeous autumn leaf motif bangle. The translucent amber-colored Bakelite is carved into a ring of soft, curving leaves. This wide bracelet is warm and wonderful. Circa 1940.

Bakelite was the first plastic made from synthetic components. Developed by chemist Leo Baekeland in Yonkers, New York, 1909. Bakelite jewelry became fashionable in the 1920s due to its sleek, modern look and substantial, high-end feel. The wide variety of colors and visual textures made available by Bakelite kept it popular through the 1950s.
