This Corn Maiden has been carved from a banded agate, soft and smooth like a worry stone. She wears a small turquoise at her breast. And her tummy has been worn through, down to the agate's bands. The Maiden hangs from a silver wire bale on a modern sterling silver box chain. Circa 1980.
Across Native American cultures, the Corn Maidens symbolize the prayers of the people for a bountiful harvest.
