A cheerful flower basket brooch set with sparkling and colorful paste gems. The body of the brooch is 935 grade silver (slightly higher silver content than 925 sterling), delicately cast in the form of a basket filled with leaves and flowers. The silver is studded with green, red, blue and aqua-colored paste gems in closed back settings. The base of the basket is set with a row of glittering marcasites. A timeless motif rendered with Edwardian charm. Circa 1910.
Paste gems are leaded glass gems formed in molds and then polished to resemble diamonds or gemstones. With better quality pastes facets could even be cut and polished like natural gems.
