We are listing a selection of truly special pieces from our collection of antique mourning jewelry. These wonderful brooches are incredible tokens of love and sentiment that have come down to us through history. This is the perfect opportunity to add a genuinely unique jewel to your collection.
This early Victorian brooch is so elegant. A plait of blonde and brunette hair is preserved under a bevel edged glass. The glass is framed by a gold bezel, surrounded by glossy black enamel. The gold bezel is richly engraved with a geometric pattern. The 12k gold and black enamel create a dramatic contrast. The initials "MJT" are exquisitely hand engraved on the back. The brooch is secured with a classic Victorian C-clasp. Circa 1850.
The Victorians held great meaning in symbolism and that is reflected in the use of colors and gems in mourning pieces. The black enamel on this brooch represents the deep love and grief felt for the deceased. What an extraordinary and beautiful piece of history.
