An exquisite 19th Century buckle of French silver set with sparkling white paste stones. This piece is darkly romantic, with gracefully formalized swirling lines. The teeth of the buckle swivel easily and are in good working condition. This marvelous buckle will look fantastic worn on a belt, sash or scarf. Hallmarked for France. Circa 1880.
Paste gems are leaded glass gems formed in molds and then polished to resemble diamonds or gemstones. With better quality pastes facets could even be cut and polished like natural gems.
