Charming Gold Filled & Garnet "Padlock" Necklace

This antique necklace displays a charming array of classic Victorian features. The petite gold filled book chain has small links, engraved with tiny flowers. A faux, heart-shaped padlock forms the front closure; the lock is embellished with blue flowers blooming around a deep red garnet. Two tassels swing from the clasp. This is a choker-length piece, dainty and darling. Circa 1890.

This style of chain is known as a "book chain" because the folded flat links resemble the cover of a book. It is also said these flat chains were often used as book marks. Perfect, we love old books as much as we love antique jewels.

Details.....The necklace has a 14" wearable length, and the chain is 3.2mm wide. The front clasp measures .58" by .72", 1.55" with tassels. In Very Good Antique Condition. You should expect some wear on all vintage and antique jewels, we consider it part of their charm.
