Charming Repoussé Sterling Cigarette Case

The Victorians and Edwardians loved beautifully crafted accessories that were both pretty and practical. This Canadian sterling silver cigarette case is a charming example, with its elaborate border of repoussé leaves and flowers and exquisite engraving. The front of the case bears a delicately incised crown and the monogram "MB." The hinged lid opens to reveal ornate arms that once held cigarettes in place; it's as delightful inside as it is out. The arms are marked "Sterling-H," "152," and bear the maker's mark for Goldsmiths' Stock Company of Canada. This case is in clean, functional condition; while it was intended to hold cigarettes, it certainly may hold a wide variety of things. Circa 1910.
