Chunky Orange Bakelite Bangle Carved with Wavy Design

A funky, chunky orange Bakelite bangle, deeply carved with a wavy pattern. The half round bracelet is covered with vertical waves creating an unusual ruffled effect. This pre WWII bangle feels very modern, it's a fun piece that adds color and texture to any outfit. Circa 1930-1940.

Bakelite was the first plastic made from synthetic components. Developed by chemist Leo Baekeland in Yonkers, New York, 1909. Bakelite jewelry became fashionable in the 1920s due to its sleek, modern look and substantial, high-end feel. The wide variety of colors and visual textures made available by Bakelite kept it popular through the 1950s.
