This Civil War era pocket watch-style locket is a beautiful piece of history. Crafted front and back in gold sheet, it is delicately hand engraved with a motif of flowers and four leaf clover. A pocket watch style button release opens the locket, revealing tintypes of a stern looking middle aged couple, coiffed and outfitted in the fashion of the day, preserved under glass. An unusual piece, of high quality and in very nice condition. Circa 1860.

A tintype photograph is made by coating a thin sheet of metal with a dark lacquer or enamel to support the photographic emulsion. Tintypes enjoyed their greatest popularity during the 1860s and 1870s.

Details.....Measures 1.33" across. In Very Good antique condition. You should always expect some wear on vintage and antique pieces, we consider it part of the charm.
