Fabulous Mexican Modernist earrings from Antonio Pineda. These large collectible earrings resemble surreal bells. Elongated cones of glossy sterling silver swing from polished silver domes. Peeking from the bottom of each cone is a soft-purple amethyst. As the amethyst moves inside the silver cones, a faint chime can be heard, the sound as soothing as the cool complementary tones of silver and amethyst. These earrings are screw-backs, typical of the era. The back of each earring bears the maker's mark Pineda began using in 1953. We love Pineda's work; his fascinating designs are always unexpected. Circa 1950.
Antonio Pineda was born in Taxco, Mexico, in 1919. He apprenticed with William Spratling before opening his workshop in 1939. Pineda's Modernist style was bold and architectural, and his jewelry is amongst the most technically refined ever made in Taxco.
Details.....The earring's domed tops have a diameter of 0.47", and the drops measure 2.80" long and .47" wide. In Very Good Vintage Condition. You should always expect some wear on vintage and antique pieces; we consider it part of the charm.
