This early 19th Century brooch features a wonderful example of palette work, a method of working human hair into delicately detailed images that are highly personal and symbolic. During this period, this would have been a craft performed in the home by women. A cornucopia overflowing with flowers, a feather, and the initials "A.R." are all picked out in hair and natural pearls, then sealed under glass. The frame is luxurious sculpted 18k gold. What a beautiful and sentimental piece of jewelry history. The brooch is hallmarked for Belgium. Circa 1820.

Details.....The brooch measures 1.29" by 1.13". In Very Good Antique Condition. You should always expect some wear on vintage and antique jewels, we consider it part of the charm.
