A brilliant pre-Columbian style parrot brooch of sterling silver inlaid with turquoise and copper. The parrot's silver head sits flush in a field of green turquoise. He has a glaring eye and a fierce beak, with his tongue rendered in copper. The stone and metal are inlaid in a slightly convex tri-oval panel of sterling silver. The back of the brooch is marked "925 Taxco" and is signed "AF." This stylized parrot feels so dynamic you can almost hear him squawking. Circa 1950.
The city of Taxco is an important center for Mexican silver jewelry design. During the 1940s, Taxco drew jewelry artists from all over the world. The main attraction for the designers and studio jewelers was the abundant locally mined supply of materials, such as silver and semi-precious gems.
Details.....The brooch measures 2.11" by 1.4". It weighs 10 grams. In Very Good Vintage Condition. You should always expect some wear on vintage and antique pieces; we consider it part of the charm.
