A charming Edwardian lavalier necklace of 10k gold set with pearls and a deep, moody blue sapphire. The lyre-shaped pendant has an Art Nouveau aesthetic, with graceful curves and sharp angles. The sapphire sits an engraved bezel, nestled between a small round pearl at the lavalier's top and the American river pearl that dangles from its base. The pendant hangs on an engraved bale from a modern 10k gold rope chain. Pretty and feminine, this would make a delightful bridal necklace. Circa 1900.

The word "lavalier" refers to an ornamental pendant suspended on a neck chain. The first recorded use of the term dates to 1915–20, named after the Duchesse de La Vallière (1644–1710), one of the mistresses of Louis XIV. Many portraits of this fascinating woman exist, though she does not seem to actually wear a lavalier necklace in any of them.

Details.....The pendant measures .45" wide by 1.40" long, 1.45" with bale. The chain is 18" long. In Very Good Antique Condition. You should always expect some wear on vintage and antique jewels; we consider it part of the charm.
