An exquisite Art Nouveau brooch depicting a beautiful woman with long flowing tresses and poppy flowers and buds in her hair. Her tranquil smile and heavy lidded eyes reflect her association with the poppy. Women paired with poppies is a very popular motif of the era, and this is an exceptional example of the theme. The repoussé jewelry making technique gives this piece its lovely three-dimensional quality. The front of the brooch is sterling silver and the back has star-shaped vent holes, a charming detail. Circa 1890.
