Fabulous 18k Egyptian Revival Locket with Hair Work

The front of this incredible 18k gold Victorian locket is embellished with Egyptian Revival and Grand Period detail. A glossy gold dome sits in a cut work frame with an elegant lotus flower motif. Interesting banded detail and beadwork emphasize the Grand Period aesthetic. The back of the piece features an open compartment that preserves colorful locks of hair curled into luxuriant Prince of Wales feathers. Tiny half pearls and crimped gold thread embellish the hairwork. The locket hangs from an 18k gold foxtail chain and looks delightful worn on a ribbon. A fabulous piece evocative of this fascinating era. Circa 1870.
