Covered in rich red Garnets and bright blue Turquoises this silver gilt Austro-Hungarian brooch has a terrific presence.
Crafted from 800 silver and gilded with gold the flat surfaces of the sword are covered in an engraved floral pattern. Set on the blade of the sword are 4 oval garnets in pinched bezels, and groups of tiny turquoise. Where the hilt meets the blade there is a bar of tiny seed pearls and the handle is further decorated with 4 more garnets and more turquoise. The top of the sword has a crown.

This piece has several groups of hallmarks, on the pin stem, the c clasp, and the back of the crown. The hallmarks give us the following information, the piece was crafted of 800 silver in Austro-Hungary between 1866 and 1922, and was imported into Sweden in 1912. The import mark would have been added to the piece on its arrival in Sweden, which would have been several years after its manufacture.

The piece measures 3 5/8" long and 1 1/2" wide at the crossbar of the hilt. The larger garnets measure 7.5mm x 5mm.
This piece dates from the turn of the last century, circa 1900.
The brooch is in excellent condition, with very light wear. The gilding is intact, and the stones appear to be all original.
