These are the best Jet earrings. The deeply and intricately carved torpedo shaped drop hangs from a carved cut back collet set disc of jet. They move beautifully when worn, and are substantial without being heavy on the ear.
Jet was made popular in the mid Victorian period. Queen Victoria was in mourning for her husband for decades and mourning attire became fashionable in society. Jet (petrified lignite coal) was mined in Whitby England and the majority of Jet jewelry from the 19th c was made in England.
