This incredible coin silver and turquoise ring is signed by renowned Navajo artist Chee Keams. A gorgeous turquoise gem is set in a scalloped bezel at the center of a flat silver plaque with curvy edges. The plaque is decorated with a scalloped overlay pattern in which a carved layer of polished silver is applied to a layer of oxidized silver, creating a shadow box effect of contrasting textures. This technique was developed by the Hopi tribe. Navajo and Hopi artists sometimes collaborate on a piece, perhaps this ring is an example of such a collaboration. The decorative top sits above a half round band. This beautiful and collectable ring is signed on the back with Chee Keams's makers mark, a backwards "C" attached to the letter "K." Circa 1960.
