Iconic Sputnik Gemstone Ring in 18k Gold
This parti-colored Sputnik ring is an iconic Atomic Age fashion ring. The 18k gold ring is set with 19 round gemstones including peridot, garnet, aquamarine, tourmaline, citrine, and amethyst. The harlequin gems sit in bezels, bursting in all directions from the bombé ring. The domed top of the ring sits over a scrolled gallery and sleek band. This particular ring is unsigned but is almost certainly an original H. Stern design. Atomic Age glamour, this ring is an explosion of fun and brilliant color. Circa 1950.
The Sputnik ring was designed in the 1950s by Hans Stern to highlight the range of colored gemstones available from Stern's Brazilian mines. It came to be called “Sputnik” because of its resemblance to the Soviet satellite launched in 1957.
