The Jugendstil movement coincided with the Art Nouveau and Arts and Crafts movements. Jugendstil meant Youth Style, fresh young cutting edge, and this necklace is all of that. This beauty has what would have been shocking design elements in 1900, curves and geometry. The Jugendstil style was in rebellion to the academic designs of the past and an embracing of the future. This necklace has bezel set rubies and swags of gold chain between decorative plaques. The pendant terminates in a pearl drop and the clasp is a classic barrel type from this era. The necklace is marked on the back 333 which is the mark for 8k gold used in Germany during this era.
Details.....The necklace is 15.75" long, the decorative portion measures 2.62" across, the total drop at the front measures 1.60". In Excellent Antique Condition. You should always expect some wear on vintage and antique jewels, we consider it a part of their charm.
