Gold Late Georgian Day and Night Earrings

Another fab pair of Day and Night Earrings. There were strict rules of dress in the early 1800's, one of these rules was no dangling earrings during the day, and so the Day and Night earring was created. During the day you would wear only the top, in this case a round gold dome with a lovely overall pattern and hinged wires, and when you went out in the evening you would add the drops and have an elegant long earring. This pair of 18k yellow gold earrings is covered in an all over intricate design like that of a fancy drapery. These lovely earrings date from circa 1820-30.

Details.....The tops, day, earrings measure .53" x .24", with the evening drops added they measure 1.86" long, the drop measures .24" at its widest. All Vintage and Antique jewelry will show some wear.
