This half hoop gem set ring from the very early 1800's is stunning in its simplicity. The garnets are foil backed in a closed setting. The addition of the foil behind the stone was used to add depth and light to the gems. When you look into these deep red garnets they are like a shimmering bottomless pool. The stones are set simply with an added ball decoration and the shoulders of the ring have Cannetille flowers. Cannetille is created using very fine gold wire and twisting it into designs. The double shank has grooved engraving and embellishment. The smooth underside of the ring makes it quite comfortable to wear.
