Opulent 18k Gold Chain with Enameled Clasp c.1780

This astounding 18k gold chain is alloyed with iron, silver, and copper, allowing us to date the piece to the 1780s. Was this opulent jewel worn, perhaps, in Marie Antoinette's court? Sheets of rolled and stamped gold form large, airy links; long cylinders are pierced with a helix design, globe links are stamped with stars. An exquisite barrel clasp is enameled in black and ringed by a halo of pearls. This chain looks quite substantial, it certainly makes a dramatic statement, yet it is surprisingly lightweight. What a rare treasure.

Details.....The chain is 47" long, the links are 6.2mm wide, and the clasp measures 9.3mm by .51". In Very Good Antique Condition. You should always expect some wear on antique and vintage jewels; we consider it part of their charm.
