Original Peep Show Stanhope Ring
An aluminum ring sporting a paste stone conceals a spicy secret. A Stanhope lens is hidden in the ring's profile: peer through the peephole and you will espy a nude girl holding a scarf. These types of rings were common gag gifts and carnival prizes. Made to resemble classic mens' rings of the early 20th Century, they impart a clandestine peep show. Circa 1900-10.
A Stanhope lens is a small, high-powered magnifying glass invented by the Earl of Stanhope in the mid 19th Century. It had practical uses in the medical field but was quickly adapted for novelty purposes as well.
