A very petite Navajo squash blossom necklace, with unusually geometric squash blossom links, flanking a central Naja pendant. Two-part construction beads, turquoise-set links, and the Naja are strung on a woven silver chain. The turquoise is richly colored, with a range of hues from sky blue to green. The piece finishes with a traditional hook and eye clasp. This is a very lightweight version of the typically imposing necklace style. Circa 1960.
The Naja symbol is believed to have originated in the Middle East. The Moors brought horse-shoe shaped jewelry with them into Spain as a ward against the evil eye. The Spanish conquistadors introduced the symbol to the Navajo, who integrated it into the dramatic squash blossom design.
Details.....The necklace is 17" long, the Naja measures 1.2" by 1.17", and the turquoise-set links are .53" by .95". In Very Good Vintage Condition. You should expect some wear on all vintage and antique jewels; we consider it part of their charm.
